Leter "e" means, that ship is measured by english in war prize, and "f" by France.

Notice : "Eslora" measured in stem to stern in lower deck. "manga" was extreme breadth of a ship.

Notice : There is no completely list of spanish warships in 17th century.

It is know, that some efforts to maintain navy made in 1680s : eight ships, most of them of 60-70 guns,

were built on contract in the dutch republic.

In 1682 and at least ten units were built for the squadron of the southern netherlands in this decade.

Around 1685 list of the navy in european waters gives a strength of 20 ships of around 20 000 t.displacement,

of these 16 were 50-70 gun ships with Displacement between 800-1400 t.

In 1686 Spanish have 17 ships between 42-70 guns, and 13 two decker ships in year of 1700 (source 3, page 176)

Between 1600-1669 Spanish built c.88 000 toneladas of ships (source 1) (c.140 000-150 000 t., my own estimate)

Assurance

I have not been able to ascertain details of the remaining 7 sail of the Armada, which, when it left La Coruña (27. VIII. 1639),

must have totalled 75 sail including the 8 English transports, as when Tromp first (16. IX. 1639) met De Oquendo

the latter was 67 sail strong without them.

1 Some authorities state that the São Balthasar did not accompany the Armada.

2 This name is obviously wrong, but it appears thus in the contemporary English List of stranded ships.

Gran Armada de 1588 (The Invincible Armada)

============================================

The Spanish Armada was divided in different fleets corresponding

to the places of construction of the ships. This Armada, as the almost

entirety of the Spanish fleets of the XVI and XVII centuries, was composed of ships of very varied origins. We are this way Spanish ships, Portuguese, Italian, German, Flemish , English , and indeed of the coast of Dalmacia. This composition so heterogeneous, was one of the reasons of the failure of the Armada.

Each one of the fleets, was lead by expert and brave mariners.
