Army Danube Flotilla

 

Since November 1918 there was a Motor Boats Squadron (Volkswehr-Motorbootsabteilung) based in Wien-Nußdorf, c. 1920/21 reformed into small Danube flotilla, which was c. 1928 divided between different army engineer units: (commanders as in 1937)

In 1956 Patrol Boat Squadron was formed, as part of School of Military Engineering (Pioniertruppenschule), under Land Forces (Landstreitkräfte) of Federal Armed Forces (Bundesheer). It was dissolved at 30.08.2006, with decommission of both patrol boats. Engineer corps still use some light launches. In addition, there is a River Police (Schiffahrtspolizei), formed in 1980s.

 

Personnel: 1+26 (1981), 32 (1992), 2+33 (1999), 24 (2004)

Base: Pionierkaserne "Tegetthof" at Wien-Kuchelau
