Between 1920 and 1935 units are gotten up to Navy military but with years in good condition in other Navies, they are: cruise "GENERAL SALOM", cannoneers "MARACAY" "MIRANDA" and "ARAGUA", tugboats "BRION" "JOSE FELIX RIBAS" and Brig "ANTONIO DIAZ". From 1937 our withdrawn officials of the Naval school, begin to be sent to carry out automation courses abroad. In 1938, by Resolution no. 28 of 1ro of July, the Infantry resurges in the National Navy with the name of "COMPANY OF COASTAL DEFENSE". 8 of December of 1939 the School of Classes and Sailors of the Outcry (Edo. Táchira) gave a promotion of 34 students, who were instructed soon in the branch of Marines. In that same year 39 the National Government acquires in Italy two floating units military with years on watch in the Navy of this country, they are: cannoneers "GENERAL SOUBLETTE" and "GENERAL URDANETA", four years later, the 9 of September of 1943, are created the First Naval infantry company like pounding excellent within the National Navy. In 1944, four Submarine chasers are acquired in the United States, in agreement with the Law of We lent and Renting, which took the following names: "ANTONIO DIAZ", "BRION", "BRICEÑO MENDEZ" and "ARISMENDI", and arrived at the Guaira in January of 1945.

She was buit in Ireland. Owned by an Englishman, she was hired in 1844 by the Venezuelan Government. Schooner rigged, capable carry 6 guns. Final fates unknown.

An iron American steamer, built as AUGUSTA BY William H.Brown, New York: In early 1848 altered from steam steam schooner to a paddle steamship, of three masts and in late 1848 purchased by the Liberal goverment from M.Turner of New Orleans for $50,000 and arrived at Puerto Cabello on 2.10.48. Decommissioned 1850.

 

Screw steamer TRITON (built 1845)

Machinery: 2 ind. direct acting by builders., 1 drop flue boiler 125ihp

Armament:

 

Three masted iron steamer with two Loper propellers. She was originally built as BANGOR for Bangor Steam Navigation Co. by Betts, Harlan and Hollingsworth, Willmington, Del. Rebuilt in 1846 at Bucksport, Maine. She became USS SCOURGE on 12.30.46 and was reregistered as a merchantman SCOURGE on 10.7.48. Owned by J.Jater, Lafayette, New Orleans, who sold her via V.Ellis, agent in Venezuela of the Orinoco Steam Company of New York to the Venezual Conservatives of General Paez. Soon after arrival, out of coal and unarmed, she was seized on 27.11.48 at San Carlos by LIBERTAD and incorporated into the Liberal flotilla and her American crew was imprisoned in Puerto Cabello for fourth months. In late 1848 renamed TRITON. Served in the Venezuelan navy until 23.4.50, when was decommissioned and sold.

An iron American steamer of the same name built by Smirt, Dimon & Co., New York and rebuilt at Brooklyn in 1848. She had two masts, round stern, round tuck and billet head. On 22.8.48 she was purchased at New York by the Conservatives, managed to evade the blocading squadron of the Liberals and, being small, was able to cross the Maracaibo bar. On 1.1.49 she was captured bY the steamer LIBERTADOR on the Zulia river. Served in the Venezuelan navy as JACKSON until 23.4.50, when was decommissioned and sold.

Three masts steamer ordered early in 1850 by F.Corvaia for the Venezuelan Government form William Cramp, Philadelphia, she made her trial run on 28.12.50 and soon after seiled for La Guaira. Spent most time at Puero Cabello dry dock

In 1854 the LIBERTAD of 1850 was sent to her builders and a new ship of the same name was reported built, although it is very possible that that ship was only completely rebuilt receiving new engines and boilers, as the old ones were completely out of order. That ship was soon on 23.3.55 as useless for any service decommissioned andsold.

Acquired in 1853. Built by J.T.Sutton, Philadelphia in parts as GENERAL URDANETA and reasembled at Puerto Cabello. Soon in 1854 needed a new machinery, on 23.3.55 as not fit for war was decommissioned and sold.

 

Screw steamer UNION (built 1854)

Displacement: 241bm

She was built as JOHN H.HAMMITT by John H.Hammit, Philadelphia and plied as UNION between Puerto Cabello and La Guaiara. Taken at Puerto Cabello in Mar 1858 by the General Paez party. Her American master was jailed and the vessel despatched to Curacao for arms and amunition. When the Conservatives returned to government they honorably purchased the ship. Off service c1860.

 

Paddle steamer ORINOCO (built 1855)

Dimensions: 114ft 6in x 23ft 2in x 7ft

Machinery: 1 boiler

Armament:

An iron American steamer of the same name built by Reaney, Neafie & Co. and was acquired in 1859 at Trinidad. She was schooner rigged, had two masts, sharp stern and billet head. Still extant 1862, off service by 1865.

 

 

Paddle steamer VENEZUELA (built 1859)

Dimensions: 150ft x 25ft x 8ft 9in

Armament: 2-24pdr

Complement:

Built as WILLIAM FOULKS at Williamsburg, New York and purchased on 27.8.60 via Dallett Brothers of Philadelphia. The ship was repaired and caulked and her boilers overhauled at the Penn Works of Neavie & Levy and then in September she was sent to Puerto Cabello. As a transport she could carry 240 men. Still extant 1863, off service by 1865.
